Minecraft is a game where you... Build things.

It's retro graphics style, which hearken back to the first 3D computer games (Wolfenstein, Doom) belie its complexity. From the moment you punch your first tree, to the first creep that explodes upon you, to when you "get" how the game works. Seeing your first sunset, sunrise, and watching that big blocky moon slowly float across the sky over the massive landscape you sense something is special with this game.

Development was a one man show until Minecraft emerged seemingly overnight in the spotlight, when the small price he was asking for the game ended up getting hundreds of thousands of users, eventually culminating in a small fortune (about 3/4 million dollars) which led to him forming his own company and hiring people to work full time on the game.

This page will have content including links to my minecraft videos, photos, and thoughts on the game (including things that would be a cool idea to implement).

Ideas I'd like to see:

Server lists - Instead of having to remember the name of the ip of the server you're connecting to, you can choose to log into a server from a list of those you've already been at.

Server Aliases/Dynamic IP - something like "username.minecraft.net" that will redirect to host ip-address. There are external services like no-ip that you can use, but one built into the game would be neat.

World Mapping - There's already world map mods that use a google like interface, but they seem somewhat limited. A hosted service that lets you zoom in and out on a map, and even go below the surface, and also rotate (like Sim City) would be neat.

Built in video recording - This might be a bit hard to do, if at all, but it would be nice to have a default "youtube ready" video capture.

High Level Items - The ability to take crafted items and put them into the grid to make a second level of items. For instance, a torch and the helmet, could make a mining helmet. Or 3 hoes/shovels + sticks to make a mower to hack away at earth 3 cubes wide.

Metal Detector - My friend mentioned this the other night, as did Yahtzee, apparently, but this would be very good to have.
