Tribolution

Tribolution

Eschaton: 2012

The tribulation of tribal evolution. Run the gauntlet from caveman to spaceman. From the darkness of ancient caves to the darkness of interstellar flight.

Players start with a blue and red token for a breeding pair of cavemen. There are different phases of technological evolution.

There are 3 different kinds of cards: Tech Challenge Material

Players compete to win tech cards of the current level. During their attempts to gain tech, various challenges can be thrown towards each other.

After each tech level, a gauntlet is run facing off against "minibosses" of things like ice-ages, or dinosaurs or plague. Attempting to kill as many of your tribe as possible. New tech helps defend against these challenges.

You will also aquire environmental material cards that can be used in conjunction with tech to create new items to help combat the challenges and gauntlets.

If nobody dies during the gauntlet, they roll die a certain number of times to determine if they breed. If so, new pieces are played. Random die roll determines gender of new piece. New piece is part of your tribe and accelerates your acquisition of tech by allowing you to claim a piece. (i.e. if you land on a space that has tech - that tech is now yours, unless opponent can capture it)

I don't know about the combat system yet.

I think it will be a board game. How does the board work as a map? How does it work as a tech-tree?

What is a round? Do rounds increase in length? Perhaps the rate at which you acquire tech increases like McKenna's time wave.

PERHAPS! Perhaps the idea is the Eschaton! As you approach the final years, you have to invent x technology to "survive".

Perhaps this lends a cooperative aspect to it as well.
